QUEEN OF THE SEA

Queen of the Sea is a short documentary about a young and fearless trailblazer using surfing as a way to forge a path for young Senegalese women, rooted in a family history that’s as deeply connected to the ocean as Déguéne is. Written and directed by Kate Cox, the film explores the symbiotic relationship between women, the ocean, community and sport. Kate travelled to Dakar and brought Déguéne’s story to life. The film screened at DOC NYC and AFRIFF in Lagos, and took home a Gold Award.
